FAQs
What is Super 8?
Super 8mm refers to analog motion-picture film developed by Kodak in 1965. It has grown in popularity because of it’s unique characteristics such as the vibrant colours, film grain, and imperfections like dust particles that add character and charm to each frame. It was commonly used for family home movies , and has since become a nostalgic choice by couples to relive their wedding day.
How does filming your wedding on Super 8 change my approach?
Shooting on film has it’s benefits and it’s quirks. One cartridge contains 50ft of film which amounts to approx. 2-3 minutes of footage. Since one cannot review the footage after releasing the trigger (like on digital cameras) there must be intention with every shot I take. It creates room for me to slow down, take a breath, and capture moments in time, rather than a shot-list.
When filming on Super 8 it’s also essential to choose the correct film stock to achieve the best results. If your ceremony is outdoors and the reception indoors, different film stocks are needed to accommodate the varying lighting conditions.
Also, I can be creative with the film stocks I chose for your wedding day. Shooting on Black & White film will change the whole viewing experience and take you back in time. I filmed both Laura & Jeff and Chelsea & Mitchell’s weddings on B&W film, feel free to take a peek.
What is your turnaround time?
Since filming on Super 8 is niche, there are factors that I cannot control. Once exposed to light, film needs to be processed and developed by a lab, then the film is scanned and converted to digital. Depending on the labs workload it can be anywhere from 4-5 weeks before I have the footage in hand and am able to start editing your film. So I typically give a 4-6 week turnaround time from your wedding day.
INQUIRE

Hi, I am Nathan Middleton – a Toronto based filmmaker
I’m known for my sense of adventure and love for capturing life’s precious moments on camera. I’ve always been a hands on learner, tinkering with computers from a young age, and pressing random buttons on electronics just to see what would happen – which led to some cool discoveries and also some mishaps.
In early 2020, I became fascinated with analog audio tech like Gramophone record players, Tape recorders, which eventually led me to analog picture film. It was fall 2023 when I got my first Super 8 camera and after receiving my first roll of film it amazed me how surreal it looked. I’ve been inspired ever since to continue this adventure by offering Super 8 to couples for their wedding day.
